On the vast landscapes of Kazakhstan, where wind, sand, high heat, and humidity relentlessly test the endurance of electrical equipment, a custom-made transformer from Liaocheng, Shandong, China, has earned a reputation as a local favorite. Its success story showcases not only the robust quality of “Made in Liaocheng” but also exemplifies a new paradigm for innovative and adaptable Chinese enterprises navigating complex global markets.

A Product Engineered for Extremes

A 115 kV transformer, soon to be shipped to Kazakhstan, stands ready in Xinda Transformer’s workshop. It may look conventional, but it represents a strategic advantage for international markets. “The transformer we custom-developed for Kazakhstan features exceptional weather resistance, protection against wind and sand, and superior anti-corrosion properties,” explains Mr. Meng Guangxiang, Vice General Manager of Xinda Transformer Co., Ltd. “Because it is perfectly adapted to the local environment, sales have surpassed 200 units, making it a best-seller there.”

This success is no accident. Instead of pursuing a broad, undifferentiated export path, the company adopted a precise “small but sophisticated, high-efficiency” strategy. Xinda Transformer keenly seized the opportunities presented by the Belt and Road Initiative, engaging in custom R&D tailored to the specific environmental conditions of each target country. This “one country, one strategy” approach to deep service has created powerful, irreplaceable value for its products overseas.

From Single Product to Diversified Growth

“Our overseas orders have increased by 22% year-on-year,” adds Vice General Manager Meng. “Our product portfolio is also evolving from single transformers to more diversified offerings. We are carving out a new export path characterized by specialization and high efficiency.”

An Ecosystem That Fuels Sustainable Exports

The success of a single transformer is underpinned by a broader ecosystem of innovation and industrial synergy in Liaocheng. This supportive “innovation rainforest” provides the solid foundation for the steady growth of local manufacturing. Data indicates that in the first three quarters of this year, Liaocheng’s foreign trade exports reached 27.32 billion RMB, a 10.8% year-on-year increase. Exports of high-tech products amounted to 710 million RMB, and the city accounted for 79.6% of Shandong province’s exports of new energy buses. These figures signal a significant shift in Liaocheng’s export growth from scale-driven to quality and efficiency-driven, with innovation firmly established as the core engine for high-quality industrial economic development.
